Essay on Interest in Science and Religion
Applicants should submit an essay of no more than 1,500 words outlining their interest in science and religion and detailing a specific topic they anticipate covering. They should explain the topic's importance, its media coverage to date, how they came to their interest, and how a broad grounding in science and religion relates to their own career in journalism. While fellows may explore any aspect of science and religion, the Templeton Foundation is itself particularly interested in certain topics, which are described on its website, templeton.org. The choice of a topic is not binding. Fellows may make the final decision on which subject to pursue in project work at the first Cambridge seminar.
Writing Samples
Applicants should provide three samples of their best journalistic work. Writing samples need not cover science and religion, though an applicant who has written in the field should submit at least one of these pieces.
Interviews for short-listed applicants will be conducted in New York or London in late January and early February 2006, travel expenses paid.
Fellows will be selected by an advisory committee made up of scientists, academics, and journalists.
Fellows will be announced on February 28, 2006.
The fellowships begin June 1, 2006, and conclude July 29.
